The snow is still coming to our part of the world and its magic inspires such scenes.

I do not ski; I can only dream of it, but if I did, this would be me.

I painted this image for the Christmas Season this year. Tomorrow is February 2nd, traditionally celebrated by the Church as the Feast of the Presentation, when forty days after his birth, Jesus and Mary were presented in the temple according to Jewish practice. It has also been called ‘Candlemas Day’ because Jesus was recognized by Simeon as the Light of the World. New candles were blessed and lit in celebration. And it has also been called the Feast of the Purification of Mary, since according to Jewish custom, the mother underwent a purification ritual after giving birth.

The night before He died, Jesus prayed, “Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me…”  The above is a more abstract view of the darkness that gripped Him.

My attempt here was to go with broad impasto strokes, but totally strayed to more realistic without wanting to.

Bright Folk art style for the face of the Virgin of Guadalupe who came to an Aztec man named Juan Diego in 1531. On a hill near current Mexico City Our Lady of Guadalupe became the beloved patroness of the Americas.
